Enbridge Gas New Brunswick honours green award recipients

FREDERICTON, NB - On June 3, Clean Air Day, Enbridge Gas New Brunswick presented eight Green Awards at a ceremony held at the New Brunswick Museum in Saint John.

The Green Awards recognize Enbridge Gas New Brunswick customers for the positive impact they have had on the environment by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from their businesses and households.

This year, two new awards were added, the Leadership and Student award.

The annual GHG emissions reduction by this year’s nominees totals almost 2,250 tonnes annually.

“Enbridge Gas New Brunswick strives to keep environmental issues at the forefront of our business,” says Dave Charleson, General Manager of Enbridge Gas New Brunswick. “We make every effort by protecting the environment and conducting our business in a socially responsible and ethical manner. This event is about recognizing our customers for the positive impacts they have made.”

The 2008 Green Awards were presented to: Thierry LeBouthillier (Residential Retrofit); Bird Holdings (Small General Service Commercial); Saint John Port Authority (General Service); Marriott Hotel in Moncton (Contract General Service); Colpitts Developments (Residential New Home Construction); Hoadley Engineering Inc. (Innovation award); Crombie REIT (Leadership) and Keleigh Annau, Founder of Lights Out Canada (Student Award).

“This event is about taking the opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate all of our customers for being environmentally forward with their energy solutions,” said Charleson. “We all have a role to play in reducing our impact on the environment.”

During the ceremony, Peter Corbyn, a Fredericton based professional engineer, spoke to the crowd about what they can do to reduce their carbon footprint.

Corbyn was one of 500 people and the only Atlantic Canadian hand picked by Al Gore to spread the message about the harmful effects of global warming.

At the end of the night, Charleson presented a $5,000 donation on behalf of Enbridge Gas New Brunswick to the NB Climate Change Hub recognizing the decision by the nominees to use natural gas results in cleaner air for everyone.

Enbridge Gas New Brunswick has nearly 10,000 customers and services nine municipalities in southern New Brunswick, including Dieppe, Fredericton, Moncton, Oromocto, Riverview, Sackville, Saint John, St. George and St. Stephen.
