The three charges that make up the total cost of natural gas are: the Customer Charge, the Delivery Charge, and the Commodity Charge.
The delivery charge depends on estimates of the future cost of natural gas, oil, and electricity. The cost of the natural gas commodity has decreased*, which enables Enbridge Gas New Brunswick to increase its delivery charge and still provide typical customers with the target annual savings** for their rate class.
The following table outlines the increase of the delivery charge for each customer rate class.
|
Residential | SGSRE | 7.6212 | 8.3846 | 8.3846 |
SGSRO | 9.7456 | 10.7106 | 10.7106 |
Commercial | SGSC | 9.3538 | 11.5142 | 11.5142 |
GS | 9.6570 | 12.4158 | 12.4158 |
CGS | 8.6291 | 11.8155 | 11.8155 |
Industrial | LFO*** | 4.0861 | 6.4324 | 6.4324 |
HFO | 0.0860 | 0.6357 | 0.6357 |
Despite the changes to any of the three charges that make up the total cost of natural gas, typical customers will continue to see target annual savings compared to the previous fuel source.**
EXAMPLE:
For a typical Small General Service Residential Oil customer who consumes 86 GJ’s of natural gas per year, the overall annual cost of natural gas would actually be approximately $25 less than what was expected at this time last year. This is based on the following:
- The delivery rate increase of $0.965 /GJ, which would mean an increase of approximately $83 in their annual delivery charge. ($0.965 x 86GJ = $83)
- A decrease of $1.25/GJ in the commodity charge*, which would mean annual savings of $107.50. ($1.25 x 86GJ = $107.50)
- Typical residential customers will continue to see 20% target annual savings compared to their previous fuel source.
*The Enbridge Utility Gas commodity charge, which is a forecasted 12-month balanced price used for residential and commercial customers decreased from $9.00 /GJ in May 2009 to $7.75/GJ in May 2010.
**Target annual savings by rate class: SGSRO, SGSRE, SGSC 20%; GS, CGS 15%; and LFO 10%. Individual savings depend on factors such as consumption, efficiency gains and/or fuel cost.
***$6.4324/GJ is based on the first 22,000 GJ delivered per month, for the next 36,000 GJ delivered per month it will be $0.1900, for volumes delivered in excess of 58,000 GJ per month it will be $0.0800/GJ. Effective June 3, 2010
