The word "Enbridge" combines “energy” and “bridge” — meaning, a bridge to our customers, a bridge to new markets, and a bridge to the future. The bilingual name respects both official languages of New Brunswick and aligns with not just our brand identity but our corporate vision as well.

In 1999, Enbridge Gas New Brunswick (owned by Enbridge Inc. and several private investors) entered into a 20 year renewable agreement with the provincial government as a regulated utility with plans to distribute natural gas to residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial customers in New Brunswick. Two years later, the first natural gas deliveries were being made to Saint John, Fredericton, Dieppe, Moncton, Oromocto and St. George.
In 2004, the natural gas distribution system expanded to St. Stephen, bringing the total number of communities served by Enbridge Gas New Brunswick in the province to seven. With the expansion to Riverview in 2006, and Sackville in 2008, Enbridge Gas New Brunswick is now serving nine communities in the province and has over 10,300 customers in the province and counting.
