Dorchester to get Natural Gas
The New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) has given Enbridge Gas New Brunswick approval to extend natural gas service to the Village of Dorchester. The decision came following a hearing on July 14th.
The expansion to Dorchester marks the 10th community to receive natural gas service, joining the communities of Dieppe, Fredericton, Moncton, Oromocto, Riverview, Sackville, Saint John, St. George, and St. Stephen.
Dorchester mayor, Melvin Goodland is pleased to see natural gas service extended to the community.
“Natural gas availability within the Village of Dorchester will provide an economical fuel choice for the citizens and businesses of the community as well as for future growth, significantly contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases and the demand for electricity,” said Mayor Goodland.
“Expanding to our 10th community is an important achievement for our utility as we continue to grow a sustainable natural gas distribution system in New Brunswick,” said Dave Charleson, general manager of Enbridge Gas New Brunswick.
Charleson added the total cost to extend the distribution pipeline through the village is $2.8 million. Pipeline construction will begin in the fall of 2011. Natural gas will be available to customers in Dorchester by the end of the year.
Enbridge Gas New Brunswick is regulated by the New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board and has a distribution network that includes over 781 kilometers of natural gas pipeline. Enbridge Gas New Brunswick serves nearly 11,000 customers in Dieppe, Dorchester, Fredericton, Moncton, Oromocto, Riverview, Sackville, Saint John, St. George and St. Stephen.
